Citi ATM
Most of us are familiar with the challenges of writing for desktop or mobile, but writing for an ATM provided a completely different set of challenges.
Check Deposit
Check deposits were a new feature for this ATM release. This meant blending legacy copy for existing flows with new copy specific to this flow. Examining legacy features illuminated chances to standardize things like the final “Deposit Now” CTA across all actions.
Accessibility for Visually Impaired Users
Accessibility features also take on a unique form with ATM. Visually impaired users must be able to insert headphones at the beginning of a session to hear a voiceover of each screen. The functionality is similar to that of a screenreader, except that the script for each screen must be hardcoded to the ATM. Writing these voiceovers was part of my responsibilities. For this success screen, a visually impaired user would hear the following:
Your deposit of 10 checks for $30,123.56 has been credited to Interest Checking.
If you’d like to do something else, press 1.
Otherwise, press 2 to continue.
